"Fog, Ice, Rock and Stick" - Canyonlands National Park
This image was taken about a mile from the Elephant Hill trailhead in
the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. I had just spent a
wonderful magical day hiking by myself through Chestler Park and making
a loop back via Elephant Canyon ... a long day carrying medium format
camera gear through many stretches of snow and ice. I took this photograph
on the return hike.
Visiting Canyonlands in January has it's advantages ... instead of lines
and crowds, you almost have the place to yourself. Chances are you will
only see one to three groups staying at the campgrounds, and in addition
the ice crystals made by the thick fog hang on everything to make a very
unique experience of the desert.
